The time has come and 2008 Change It Conference has met its application deadline and is no longer accepting applicants. For those of you that have applied thank you for wanting to step up and become the next generation of leaders in the global movement for environmental change. We received hundreds of applications and were impressed with each and every one. Unfortunately, we could only accept 70 students per city. For those accepted, congratulations and we look forward to meeting you in July! If you are not going to be joining us in July we encourage to keep up your thirst to lead a generation in the green revolution! I am sure you’d still like to get your feet wet in the environmental and social change movement, so, I would like to take the time to tell you about four great opportunities that Greenpeace has to offer to cutting edge students like yourself!
Become a Greenpeace Campus Coordinator. Campus Coordinators work closely with Greenpeace staff to develop and implement hard-hitting campaigns on campus. Right now, we are running the Kleercut and Project Hot Seat Campaigns. For more details, visit www.greenpeacestudents.org or email Greenpeace Student Organizers, Mary and Robin at students@sfo.greenpeace.org.
Be a Part of the Greenpeace Organizing Term. Every semester and summer, 15-20 students take a semester away from campus to work full time with Greenpeace. GOT students take part in classroom trainings on the basics of organizing and social change making, and then get out and put these skills to action on real Greenpeace campaigns. Think about it as a semester abroad. Only cooler. You can learn more and apply at http://www.greenpeace.org/usa/getinvolved/greenpeace-organizing-term.
Intern with Greenpeace. We offer semester long and summer long internships. Interns have the opportunity to work closely with Greenpeace mentors and see the inside world of what it takes to run effective environmental campaigns. You can find out more and apply at www.greenpeaceusa.org.
Attend Power Shift 2009. The Energy Action Coalition (of which Greenpeace is a member) held a massive 6,000-person student global warming conference in November of 2007. Students converged on DC for 4 days of action, networking, and skill building that was capped off with the largest lobby day on global warming ever (go to www.powershift07.org to find out more). Stay tuned to www.energyactioncoalition.org for more details as the plans develop for 2009.
Thanks again to everyone that applied to Change It 2008. Keep on fighting the good fight in the name of the environment! We are the generation of change and the time for it is now!
